Generating referring expressions: beyond the incremental algorithm.

Some limitations of present algorithms for the generation of referring expressions, and more specically the `incremental' algorithm of Dale and Reiter (1995), are pointed out. Remedies for a number of these limitations are proposed and their merits discussed.
