Provisioning semantic interoperability by exchanging the knowledgeable information among heterogeneous IoT devices is considered as an important but a challenging area of research. Ontologies developed for providing semantic interoperability are not found to be very suitable for the resource constraint networks due to their complex nature and higher processing time. The limited numbers of light-weight ontology available for IoT do not serve the purpose for smart applications. Important concepts like Actuator and RFID are not considered. To overcome this limitation, we proposed a Light-weight Ontology (LiO-IoT) considering Sensors, Actuators and RFID as IoT concepts. Simulation results show that LiO-IoT outperforms SSN ontology in terms of query response time and memory usage. Moreover, LiO-IoT supports more types of IoT devices than SSN and IoT-Lite ontology. Even after addition of two new concepts to LiO-IoT, the overhead is acceptable for resource constraint IoT devices.
