This study proposes a method for analyzing gaze features and modeling cognitive processes during program debugging. We first use an eye-tracking device to extract gaze transitions between editor components and code blocks. We then create transition diagrams based on a Markov process and a Z-test. Experiments demonstrate the possibility of estimating gaze transitions and cognitive processes required for error resolution by comparing transition diagrams from advanced and beginner programmers.
