Analyses of Contrasts in Abstract Visual Structures

Mariusz Stanowski · 2021

In this chapter, the definition of contrast will be applied to the analysis of simple visual structures. We will show that the aesthetic attractiveness of visual objects/structures depends on the number of contrasts contained in them. Particularly important here is the analysis of the golden division, which until today is a mystery. It will be proven that the golden division contains the most contrasts among all possible divisions, which explains in an objective way, its aesthetic attractiveness. Another important example will be the analysis of the visual binary structure (sequence of white and black squares), which will be used for formulating the definition of complexity.
