Upgrades for Engineering Software
Marinos Hadjistylianou, Daniel Hoffman · 1991
Abstract Improvements in hardware and software technology offer exciting opportunities for software development in the 1990’s. Nonetheless, because wholesale replacement of large systems is rarely feasible, most computing in the 90’s will be done by way of improving software written in the 70’s and 80’s. Consequently, methods for incremental improvement are critically needed. We propose software upgrades, in which improvements in internal system structure are scheduled with each user request for new features or error removal.
