Open Source Application Possibilities

We’ve been on a long journey together in this book – from learning what a VPS is to how to manage one to setting up a full web application and WordPress and thinking about routine maintenance. For this last chapter, I want to give you some ideas regarding the possibilities of use for your VPS, principally by introducing you to a variety of open source applications that you can install on your VPS and use. Along the way, I’ll provide tips and tricks for each application that you might be able to employ, as well as suggestions on the best ways to set them up and use them with others. And if there are competing applications, commercial or open source, I’ll mention those to give you an idea of the overall landscape. I won’t be giving extensive installation instructions for each of these; however, you can learn how to install them by visiting their respective homepages. Most installations will follow a similar pattern as we saw with WordPress:
