Weak Interactions and the Kalbfleisch-Fowler Model of Hadrons and Leptons (*)
S. P. I Osen · 2007
KALBFLEISCH and FOWLER (1) have proposed a marriage of leptons and hadrons through the agency of H a n N a m b u quarks (2). They ident i fy the two tr iplets with charge spectrum ( ~ 1, 0, 0) as the ant i leptons (~z +, ~ , ~ ; e +, 9 , ~ ) , and the t r iplet with spectrum (-1, 1, 0) as a set of hadrons (~, E, H°). Low-lying baryon states are constructed f rom three quarks in the usual way, and they ~re therefore bound states of one hadronie quark and two leptons. ~esons , being formed f rom quark-unt iqu~rk p~irs, have state vectors which are pa r t ly hadronic and p~rt ly leptonic. Binding hadrons and leptons into metas table states, reminiscent as it is of views of the nucleus prior to the discovery of the neu t ron (~)~ is beset with serious difficulties, bu t we shall not enter into them here. Ins tead we discuss some general features of the t heo ry which muy outlast the original model,
