A challenging task for most change detection applications is to accurately segment the foreground from the background under the presence of heavy illuminations changes. In fact, photometric changes can be easily misinterpreted as structural changes, thus leading to false positives in the change mask. In this paper we present a novel approach to deal with this problem, which deploys a recently proposed robust visual correspondence measure together with a tonal registration procedure.
