Conventionally designed Telegraph Terminal TH 22(XC-3)/TG can be replaced with a microelec tronic version. Weight has been reduced from 21.5 pounds to 2.5 pounds, excluding the power supply. Power consumption has been reduced from approximately 40 W to 500 mW. In addition, the microelectronic version requires no adjustments or tuning; all frequencies are derived from a single-stable crystal controlled oscillator. The Filter Assembly, F-316/U, of the Telegraph Telephone Terminal, AN/TCC-29, has been studied with an objective of converting the filter as sembly to microelectronic form. The use of active filters in a digital filter configuration has re sulted in a prototype bandpass filter whose transfer characteristic is similar to the band pass portion of the F-316/U and which offers a size and weight reduction. Throw-away and re placement policies have been investigated for microelectronic equipment. It appears that module replacement and throw-away is generally desirable to board replacement and throw-away in situations where availability is not a primary requirement. Board replacement has the dis advantage of higher cost but an advantage of re duced repair times which could be the dominant factor in given situations. (Author)
