Design for Software Maintainability

Louis J. Gullo · 2021

Developers of software products will provide code updates or patches at intermittent times to their customers after initial product release to prevent potential failures. The software maintenance process evolves based on improvements in the software maintainability, maintenance service models, maintenance strategies and concepts, and maintenance management planning. Software maintainability has the greatest impact on the software design when software maintainability activities are planned and performed early in the software development process. Designing software for maintainability means many things to many people. One of the things it means is fault tolerance in computer system applications. Based on the comprehensiveness of the test cases to model the various expected customer use cases, and the high levels of test coverage to ensure software defects are detected, whether in software development test, production test, or customer field support test, software test capabilities will make or break software maintainability.
