Black-and-White Nim: To Each His (or Her) Own

Black-and-white nim is played with towers of black and white stones. A turn consists in a player choosing a stone of his own color and removing it together with all the stones lying above it from the pile. The player who makes the last move wins. How can one find a winning move, for example, from the configuration shown in Figure 23.1 ?
