This chapter begins with the principles of common wireless positioning technologies. In wireless local area network indoor positioning, because an access point and an STA exchange packets, the packet exchange time can be recorded to measure the propagation distance. The chapter describes the applications of indoor wireless positioning technologies, in various short-range wireless communications systems. Wireless positioning services locate the source and target based on the statistical characteristics of received radio signals. Wireless positioning falls into two categories: radio frequency (RF) pattern matching and geometric positioning, which differ in their processing of data. RF pattern matching associates a location with radio signal reception features at the location. Received signal strength indicator (RSSI) -based RF pattern matching uses RSSI to establish the fingerprint database. Channel state information-based RF pattern matching can accurately reflect small-scale features of a channel and provides significantly more detailed information than RSSI-based RF pattern matching.
