Hybridization of bisection method for solving non-differentiable nonlinear equations

Ioannis A. Nikas, T. N. Grapsa · 2020

In this paper, we consider the problem of solving non-differentiable nonlinear equations in a closed initial search interval. A hybrid algorithm is proposed which combines bisection and interval bisection methods. This hybridization is an efficient alternative for the cases where, initially, a zero-localization cannot be defined. The presented numerical results show that the proposed method is not only effective, by the means that algorithm is capable to answer either that at least a zero enclosure can actually be found or no zero exists, but also reliable and efficient since performs well in comparison with classic bisection and the interval one. The experiments also show that in some cases the algorithm may result with certainty more than one different zero enclosures.
