GB 3D Models from Ultrasound Images

Wenguang Li · 2021

A method was proposed to create human gallbladder (GB) 3D geometrical models from two static ultrasound 2D images of human GB scanned respectively in the long-axis/sagittal and short-axis/transverse directions in the chapter. GB bile volumes of the 3D geometrical models were determined and contrasted with those from the ellipsoid model and sum-of-cylinders method in the literature. The geometrical models were input into in Abaqus 6.11 and finite element analysis (FEA) was carried out on them by employing homogenous, isotropic, thin shell mechanics model. The peak stress was compared with the stress in the ellipsoid model in Chapter 5 or 6 . The GB volumes from the 3D models are correlated to the volumes based on the ellipsoid model and sum-of-cylinders method very well. The stress level in the 3D GB model walls is 1.76 times the stress level determined by the ellipsoid model in Chapter 5 or 6 at the same internal pressure. The method potentially can be applied to clinical diagnosis of GB disease.
