Inter and Intra Subject Variability of the Speech Waveform Density as Estimated by the Gamma Density Function

Daniel G. Haworth · e-Publications@Marquette (Marquette University) · 1981

The speech waveform probability density function is approximated by the Gamma density function. The speech waveform density and the Gamma density function are compared given the scale and shape parameters of the Gamma density function estimated from the speech waveform data. The negative, positive and full-wave rectified amplitude density cases are investigated. In addition, the peak to RMS ratio and average to RMS ratio are estimated. A stationarity test is performed to check for long term variability in the speech level. Inter subject and intra subject variability are investigated for different sample record lengths in the presentation of the results when applicable.
