Erasure Codes are becoming increasingly popular as a means to provide fault tolerance and protect stored data from server failures. In this paper, we propose SPoraDIC (SPlit Diagonal Interleaved Codes), a middleware that implements Diagonally Interleaved Coding in Edge computing systems. SPoraDIC splits data into smaller blocks and interleaves them in diagonal order before encoding and storing them in the cloud. As an edge-side solution, the encoding and uploading of the encoded data are performed by the edge device while the server stores the encoded data and accepts client requests to transfer data to the edge device for decoding. We evaluated our framework in terms of data availability and downloading/decoding latency, utilizing several datasets. We illustrate that our solution outperforms several state of the art approaches.
