OpenFC: a portable toolkit for custom FPGA accelerators and clusters
Yasunori Osana, Taisei Imahigashi, Akinobu Tomori · 2020
Advancement of HLS technologies enabled to design FPGA-based accelerator for non-hardware specialists. However, there are still difficulties in communications between CPU-FPGA or FPGA-FPGA. OpenFC is an open and portable toolkit to build custom FPGA accelerators ranging from single-chip SoCs to multi-CPU/FPGA clusters. This toolkit provides basic hardware features such as DMACs, partial reconfiguration controller, and FPGA-to-FPGA spell links. OpenFC also provides unified APIs for both ARM-based FPGA SoC and PCIe DMACs. Users can design their custom accelerators with Vivado/Intel HLS or in RTL, without using any OpenCL-based tools. This paper shows the software/hardware features, performance, and some examples of OpenFC usage. The source code is available from https://lut.eee.u-ryukyu.ac.jp/openfc/.
