Device Compatibility Testing Using Cypress.io

There is a strong need for testing the web applications against various ports such as iPhone, Android views along with various Tablet views since users are trending towards mobile browser usage from the traditional desktop and laptop usage. But, not all the web development teams focus on testing the pages across multiple combinations of mobile/tablet mode because it is not only expensive but also time-consuming to test such vast list of combinations. When projects are getting delivered, QAs get the mobile compatibility tests during system testing phase or System Integration Testing (SIT). The primary challenge in both these phases is the time restriction to perform functional tests and rerun after every defect fix. Hence, ‘risk-based testing’ is the most common approach while choosing the device combinations for the mobile compatibility tests in many organisations based on my discussions with engineers across various meetup presentations. This would lead to risk of finding some of the pages loading incorrect or not letting users performing certain actions when they use a combination, which is not tested at all!
