Introduction to the Microsoft Bot Framework

Stephan Bisser · Apress eBooks · 2021

In March 2016, Microsoft announced the public preview of a project, originating from FUSE Labs, a group within Microsoft focusing on real-time and media-rich experiences, called the Microsoft Bot Framework. The main focus of this product was to provide what bot developers needed to build intelligent and interactive bots. Soon after that, the Bot Framework SDK version 3 has been made generally available, and a lot of developers started using this framework to build comprehensive bots. Almost two and a half years later, Microsoft released version 4 of its Bot Framework in late 2018 making it even easier to build bots across a variety of supported programming languages and platforms. With v4, the Bot Framework currently supports building bots using .NET, JavaScript/TypeScript, and Python as well as Java, which is still in preview.
