Fast HF Antenna Tuner with a Parasitic Inductor

Jacob Rissmiller, Jacob A. Peiffer, Layth Hozi, Erica L. Daly · 2020

Synchronously tuning an electrically small antenna at the symbol rate of a frequency shift keyed (FSK) modulation has been shown to efficiently increase the throughput of the transmitter. A major challenge for realizing synchronous antenna tuners is identifying a tuning element that can both block high voltages and retune quickly. This paper explores using a switched, inductive, parasitic tuning element to quickly tune a medium-power HF transmitter.
