Evaluation on Progressive Download Methods Based on Timer-Driven Requesting Schemes on Multiple Paths with Shared Links

As many types of mobile devices which can access multiple communication media are emerging, we can enjoy high-quality videos by using these media simultaneously. Progressive download methods enabling to establish many TCP connections on each of multiple paths have been developed and evaluated to be effective. In the existing researches, the timer-driven requesting schemes are reported to yield high performance without any prior information on the network status. However, they have not been evaluated on multiple paths with a shared link. In this paper, the impact of shared links in multiple paths on the progressive download methods is estimated through simulation experiments. As a result, the proposed method is reported to be effective on both of disjoint paths and multiple paths with shared links.
