Selecting the Best DOA Estimates among Estimates Obtained using Toeplitz Matrix Approximation and General Covariance Matrix
Volodymyr I. Vasylyshyn · 2021
In the paper the joint using the sample covariance matrix (CM) of the general type and approximation of Toeplitz CM is considered. Such combination of CM can be explained by different performance of direction of arrival (DOA) estimators based on general type CM and structured CM at the different signal-to-noise ratios. Hypothesis testing based on the angular sector information obtained by robust beamformer is used to avoid outliers in DOA estimates. Deterministic maximum likelihood (ML) function is used to select the resulting DOA estimates from the set of candidate DOA estimates obtained when using both CM estimates. The simulation results confirm the improved performance of the considered approach
