Complex Geophysical Investigation in Search of Chromite Deposits at Ljuboten Greenfield Site

E. Hornicka, P. Targosz, Marcin Loska, M. Wojdyła · 2020

Summary The main objective of this research, which was done within the framework of Smart Exploration intiative, was to generate new geophysical data and identify targets for a possible future exploration of potential chromite deposits in a greenfield site of south-eastern Kosovo. A complex survey utilising gravity, magnetic and eletrical prospecting methods was perfomed at a site of confirmed chromite occurences within an ophilitic sequence in sout-east Kosovo. Gravimetry and magnetometry provided information needed for narrowing down the searching area, while electrical resistivity tomography together with time-domain induced polarisation made it possible to spot a location of possible chromite deposit. Integrating all geological and geophysical data into a 3D database largely helped in interpreting and validating anomalies of differing physical nature and may become useful in future exploration work, should there ever be one.
