The procedure outlined in Beaufait's paper, although designated exact and generally applicable, contains inherent inaccuracies beyond those attributable to the listed assumptions.In particular, the author's method for combining the effects of beam action and slab action is not exact with respect to the treatment of longitudinal variations of stress resultants and deflection.This discussion is concerned with the nature of the approximation involved.A review of the author's General Method of Analysis in the paper indicates that different longitudinal variations of stress resultants and deflection are associated with the steps in the analysis, with consequences as noted below:
