Summary The presence of Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) in seismic surveying is constantly increasing. DAS is becoming a main sensor of choice more frequently especially in borehole seismic. Therefore, it is critical to understand what it measures, what are the limitations and performance of different interrogator units. Curtin University built the Geolab Research facility at the campus located in Perth, WA, Australia. The site allows researchers to conduct the vertical seismic profiling (VSP) field experiments as well as to repeat the same experiment with different equipment or parameters’ settings in similar conditions and obtain benchmark data for further studies. This abstract shows some findings from the walkaway VSP data collected using both three-component (3C) geophones and DAS in the latest expansion of the baseline reference dataset.
