Finally in this chapter, we consider informal reasoning. Increased concern has been expressed at the apparently wide chasm between everyday reasoning in the form of argumentation and the highly artifi cial reasoning tasks used in the laboratory. That has led to the emergence of research on informal reasoning designed to focus on the processes used in most everyday reasoning.
