Disasters frequently occur across both developed and developing countries, they are unpredictable in terms of time, place and consequences, victims trapped in disaster area may survive if reliable autonomous communication solutions are deployed immediately in the first 72 hours following the disastrous even occurrence in order to initiate, manage and maintain rescue efforts, the emerging complications of disaster require that the disaster response network must provide reliable and accurate routing to cope with a distinct set of routing requirements imposed by disaster, Cognitive Radio technology has a strong potential to act in such a scenario provided that dedicated routing solutions are properly designed considering scenario's distinct routing requirements, in this paper, we study the routing requirement satisfaction of various cognitive radio disaster response networks' protocols and cognitive radio based routing solutions, we analyze the performance of these routing solutions from perspective of disaster response network routing requirements satisfaction and summarize their capabilities, furthermore, we outline relevant research issues and future research directions.
