DDoS Attacks on Various Platforms
Brij Bhooshan Gupta, Amrita Dahiya · 2021
This chapter illustrates the Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) attacks on various platforms like cloud computing and internet of things (IoT). It discusses vulnerabilities, issues, and challenges associated with each platform with regard to the DDoS attack. Cloud computing primarily requires a range of emerging innovations such as virtualisation and service oriented architecture, which are extremely vulnerable to the various external and internal security problems that threaten the public clouds. Defence strategies in cloud computing can be divided mainly into three categories, namely, attack prevention, detection, and mitigation. In attack prevention, pro-active measures are taken by the network to stop infiltration of malicious traffic. Resource constraint and low power supply of the IoT devices make them easy target for the attackers. Establishing complicated security measures on the IoT devices, given the latest technologies in place, is still continued to be a difficult task.
