Searchable encryption and data management
Brij Bhooshan Gupta, Mamta · 2021
This chapter formally introduces the concept of searchable encryption and clearly stated the need of such a technique and how this technique can be used to solve the problem of confidentiality and efficient retrieval of desired information out of the encrypted data without breaching confidentiality. Searchable encryption has application in the scenario where the readers want both confidentiality and accessibility. In addition to its direct use in searching encrypted data, searchable encryption has also changed the way any encryption technique can work. Searchable encryption allows a third-party cloud server to perform search on encrypted data without disclosing any information about what is being searched. The immediate application of symmetric searchable encryption can be seen in the scenario where some user wants to store his/her data on the cloud storage in an encrypted form and later he/she can perform search on it to retrieve the required data.
