Searching for Optimal Software Defined Network Controller Against DDoS Attacks
Branislav Mladenov, Georgi Iliev · 2020
Distributed Denial of Service attacks is one of the most destructive threats to all internet services. Software-defined networks improve the scalability and bring many security benefits but on the other hand, the centralized controller can be a target of such attacks and makes the whole network vulnerable. In this paper, we first discuss how Software Defined Network (SDN) control layer is affected by DDoS attacks. A comparison of the DDoS effect between three of the most popular SDN controllers is presented. Metrics of traffic latency and return trip time of the networks are measured and compared for two different types of topologies.
