A Fairness-Oriented Carrier Selection Algorithm for LTE-U and WiFi Coexistence Networks

Jiaxin Tang, Jun Gang Zheng · 2020

This paper considers the carrier selection (CS) problem in an LTE-U and WiFi coexistence network. A modified fairness-oriented CSAT mechanism called F-CSAT is first proposed to coordinate the transmission of LTE-U users and WiFi users on a single carrier. F-CSAT takes both access fairness in the coexistence network and LTE-U user throughput into account. Based on the F-CSAT mechanism, a fairness-oriented carrier selection (F-CS) algorithm is further proposed for performing carrier selection for LTE-U users. The F-CS algorithm takes into account both access fairness and LTE-U user throughput in carrier selection. Under the premise of ensuring access fairness on each carrier, the LTE-U base station (BS) always selects a carrier that can provide the maximum throughput for a new LTE-U user among all carriers. Simulation results show that the proposed F-CS algorithm outperforms a random selection (RS) algorithm in terms of LTE-U user average utility and coexistence fairness.
