A Caching Method for Disk Images of Multiple Virtual Machines

Masahito Shiba · 2020

Disk input/output (I/O) performance is an important parameter in virtualized environments. This paper describes a method of caching virtual disk images in the host operating system that runs multiple guest operating systems. In the proposed method, the host operating system caches data shared by multiple virtual machines and does not cache data exclusive to each virtual machine. This method solves the problem of double caching and improves the disk I/O performance of virtual machines.
