Research on Transmission Delay of SD-WAN CPE

Bo Yuan, Chun Zhao · 2020

SD-WAN is a flexible enterprise wide area network access technology. The key technology of SD-WAN is to create multi high-performance connection across the wan link, such as Internet or MSTP, that enterprises can dynamically select reliable paths for different service flows. Enterprise branches and headquarters connected based on SD-WAN technology, and the connection carries multi different kinds of enterprise service flows, SD-WAN could provide reliable interconnection for different Service Level Agreement (SLA) traffic. When the connection across through the uncertain link, such as Internet, the SD-WAN network bearer quality cannot have stable delay guarantees which like MSTP lines, however, the network delay may be critical to the service quality impact of SD-WAN. This article simulates the SD-WAN service scenario, constructs bidirectional measurement messages, and analyzes the impact of the service function modules of different implementations in the CPE on the forwarding delay through actual test data comparison.
