An Internet of Things (IoT) environment involves different types of devices such as IoT devices/end nodes, computing devices, gateways/edges and cloud servers. Initially IoT devices or end nodes such as smart home appliances, smart cars, computers, etc., pass information to the cloud, after that information is processed through different machine learning or artificial intelligence approaches through which the client can gain valuable information. It is the capability of the device that makes the IoT brilliant and this has been achieved by putting the intelligence into the devices. The intelligence in the sensors is developed by adding sensors and actuators which can collect information and pass it to the cloud through Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, ZigBee, and so on. But these IoT networks are vulnerable to different types of attack such as physical attacks, network attacks, software attacks, and encryption attacks, these attacks divert the IoT devices from performing their normal operations. So, it is very important that we overcome these attacks. This chapter will discuss all types of attack that occur in the IoT network with their counter measures, and will also cover the different layers, protocols, and the security challenges related to the IoT.
