ggplot2: graphing with the tidyverse
Nathan Whitmore · 2020
This chapter introduces the tidyverse package. It examines how to make different kinds of graph using the tidyverse and how to save a graph in the tidyverse. Regardless of what field development practitioners work in – whether it is conservation, development, physics or finance, the starting point for understanding a data set is usually to graph it. One of the most useful packages currently available for graphing is the tidyverse. The tidyverse is a suite of interconnecting packages which allows users to produce high quality graphics, and undertake data wrangling easily. While base R can make graphs fast, it is very time consuming to make these graphs look good. Within the tidyverse is a package called ggplot2. With ggplot2, it is very easy for practitioners to make professional looking graphs quickly. Scatter plots are perhaps the simplest type of plot. Each data point is simply as shown as by their x and y values.
