Embrace Our YOUnique Selves

Jordan McKinney · 2020

The parents of our students are sometimes the toughest audience we educators face. When I would hear that a parent didn’t like my teaching style or me as a person I took it so personally. I would change my practices to make them happy, and bend to their ever will. It took me time to remember that they aren’t the educator. I am. While parent support and criticism can make us better teachers, it is also important to remember that you are the professional and know what your students need. If you do what’s best for the kids, you won’t be wrong. “This is your classroom, and those are your kids. It’s you call coach.”
