Detecting Homophone Errors in English Text

Kaushik Das, Utpal Deka, Rajib Baruah · Science & Technology Journal · 2018

In this article, the authors proposed a methodology to detect the homophone errors in English texts. It is of utmost necessity that homophone errors in English revision systems are detected. It is because English texts frequently suffer from homophone errors. In order to detect homophone errors, we have to first solve the homophone problem. For this purpose, we can use the decision list to do it because the homophone problem is almost the same as the word sense disambiguation problem (WSD). But, the homophone problem is not a look-alike of the word sense disambiguation problem because the Homophone problem can use the written word but the WSD cannot. In the approach forwarded by us, we incorporate the written word into the original decision list. It is done by first obtaining and then identifying the strength of the written word. The improved decision list can raise the Log score of error detection.
