Mobile Assisted Third Space (MATS) in the Margins
Rebecca Kelly · 2020
This chapter explores the role of Third Space Theory and mobile learning practices in the context of marginalised groups. It offers an outline for developing Mobile Assisted Third Spaces (MATS) and argues how these are manifest in projects supporting rural farmers in South Africa. Further it explores how these spaces generate inclusive practices which combat hegemony and promote more democratic power relationships and the potential this has not only for a local but also a global community. The potential of MATS to promote more democratic global practices through education is explored.
