Pushing, Pulling, Carrying and Holding Data Bases

M.M. Ayoub, Anil Mital · 2020

Pushing and pulling constitute a different kind of materials handling activity. The Materials Handling Research Unit of the University of Surrey (Davis and Stubbs, 1980) has made recommendations for two-handed pushing and pulling forces that can be exerted by males in standing and kneeling positions. The summary of studies reported by Snook is the most comprehensive and includes maximum acceptable weight of carry data for male and female industrial workers as a function of carrying distance and carrying weight. There exists a small amount of literature pertaining to holding tasks. Ayoub et al. investigated holding in an attempt to determine performance of holding and unusual postures, determine performance on scores of strength tests, determine holding time and object weight relationships, and to develop and validate prediction equations based on performance on one or more of the strength tests and/or one or more anthropometric characteristics.
