Combined Application of Structured and Standard Covariance Matrices for DOA Estimation

The joint application of standard (unstructured) covariance matrix (CM) of data obtained by antenna array and CM with Toeplitz structure is considered. The censored averaging strategy is used. The aim of such processing is to improve the performance of direction-of-arrival estimation (DOA) estimation. The determination of the situations where it is necessary to use both estimates of CM is based on the estimator failure test. Improved DOA estimates can be used for signal reconstruction and subsequent separation or recognition.
