IoT Supported Assistive Network for Elderly People

Mohan C, H.K. Verma · 2020

Internet-of-things (IoT) is playing a very effective role in connecting man to things, man to man and things to things. On the other hand, considerable research and development is taking place on new assistive devices and systems for making the life of independently-living elderly people less painful, if not comfortable. This research paper presents the details of a successful effort to integrate the concept of IoT with personal assistive devices/systems and home assistive systems for elderly persons. Architecture of an IoT supported assistive network is proposed. Several personal assistive devices/systems and home assistive systems are discussed in detail. Suitable communication techniques to connect components with network and user are recommended. Implementation details are presented. The assistive network presented and developed here can be conveniently used by elderly people with zero effort, as most of the actions are taken by the intelligent master controller automatically. Some suggestions are given at the end for further research.
