Heuristic-Algorithm-Assisted Thresholding

In the current era, most of image assessment procedures are performed using a chosen semiautomated/automated image examination technique. The recorded information in the unprocessed digital image will be associated with some abnormalities, and to improve the existing information in these images, image preprocessing procedures are implemented. From prior works, it can be noted that thresholding is a proven image preprocessing technique widely adopted to improve the information existing in digital images using a chosen guiding function. This chapter presents details regarding the image thresholding based on chosen heuristic algorithms, and it also presents the implementation procedure, merits, and demerits of the heuristic–algorithm-assisted threshold process.
