DATA Step Information 5 – DO Loops, ARRAY, and Random Number Generators

These three topics are chosen for this chapter since both (one-dimensional) arrays and random number generation are commonly utilized within DO loops. The usage of one-dimensional arrays can facilitate the manipulation of data in several columns within a SAS data set. To select more than one random number for a variable in a SAS data set, the DO loop is the preferred tool for doing this. All readers completing the book to this point should be comfortable with the material in this chapter. Those readers selecting topics from the book need to be comfortable with the topics of the normal and uniform distributions and the materials in Chapters 2, 4, 8, and 13.
