Issues in Managing Multimedia Networks

Luc T. Nguyen · Auerbach Publications eBooks · 2020

This chapter looks at some of the issues in managing multimedia networks. To manage such multimedia networks, neither the voice network management system, the data network management system, nor the video network management system is adequate. The chapter discusses the network management areas in more detail and presents options involved with managing multimedia networks. In multimedia networks, the Integrated Network Management System (INMS) has to recognize the interdependencies of alarms between various media. In multimedia networks, the role of the end devices becomes more important to the satisfactory connections and services. Customer network management allows the customers access to the INMS with applications to manage their own real or virtual networks. In multimedia networks, performance management also ensures the effective functioning of the various media making up the services. The basic network management techniques and concepts will not change, but the integration of all these techniques and concepts into an INMS will be the theme of the future.
