Application of Skyline Query on Route Selection (the Case Study of Bogor City Roadway)

Route selection on roadway is a very important problem. Usually in route selection algorithms, the best route is the route that has shortest distance or fastest travel time. However, in real life, road condition is also an important factor that should be considered when selecting best route. People who use car might prefer different route than people who use motorcycles with regard to width of the road. In addition, a pregnant woman will certainly prefer the route with good road condition even though it is not a shortest route. In this paper we used the Basic Route Skyline Computation (BRSC) algorithm to select best route in Bogor roadway based on user preferences in travel time and also in road condition. BRSC is based on skyline query which is a well-known method to select interesting objects in multi-criteria dataset. This algorithm does not build all possible paths and then compare them one by one, but prune the routes which are not potential to become a skyline route as soon as possible. Experiments show that skyline route is suitable for user with different preferences with reasonable execution time.
