The MOST Systems Family

Kjell B. Zandin, Therese M. Schmidt · 2020

The MOST Work Measurement Technique is comprised of three systems: BasicMOST, MiniMOST and MaxiMOST. Each system uses statistically-derived values to analyze the movement of objects in virtually every type of industry. The core system is BasicMOST which is the most widely applied system and is used to measure manual, variable activities in many industries including manufacturing, retail and distribution. MiniMOST provides detailed analysis of highly repetitive, short-cycle activities such as small assembly and the packing of small items. MaxiMOST is used for long-cycle, non-repetitive, non-identical assembly, machining or maintenance operations. Included in this chapter are the guidelines the analyst should consider when analyzing an activity with any MOST System. This chapter also reviews the typical use of each system and provides guidelines in selecting a specific MOST System based on operation time, accuracy level and the overall percentage of occurrence. The concepts of the accuracy of MOST, identifying method improvement opportunities and using MOST in a technology-based world are also covered in this chapter.
