The Internet of Things, or IoT, is a new trend in computing that shows the enormous potential of the interconnection of various objects with the internet for data and information exchange. Although IoT is closely related to radio frequency identification (RFID) technology as far as communication is concerned, it also utilizes QR codes, sensor technologies, and other wireless technologies. The smart connected devices and extended services offered by IoT are becoming ubiquitous in the present time. This usability and scope of success has certainly drawn the attention of people with malicious intentions. The chances of threats, risks, and attacks on IoT devices and services are growing with its popularity. As data and information flow over the internet in IoT, the possibilities of cyber-attacks are obvious. As it has become such a useful internet service, IoT is now an indispensable part of our lives. So, it is very important to establish a safe and secure cyber-defense mechanism. Possible vulnerabilities in the IoT are : Insecure network services Unsafe web interfaces Insecure cloud mechanisms Less effective authentication and authorization Insufficient security features Improper transport encryption Privacy issues Insecure mobile interfaces Insufficient security features Inappropriate software/firmware Erasure of personal information, etc. Any kind of hacking or breach in security may be very dangerous, and even life-threatening in the case of the healthcare or biomedical sectors. Therefore, there is an urgent need for secure IoT which can comprehensively and minutely understand possible threats and attacks on IoT devices and services. This chapter is an effort to identify the nature of threats, intrusions, and attacks that an IoT infrastructure may face.
