Cryptography and Steganography Techniques

In the present digital world, data secrecy and integrity are a major concern, techniques like steganography and cryptography provide a way to maintain them. The objective of steganography is to hide the messages inside another file so that no one can determine the existence of any confidential message. This file can be any digital media, for example, video, image, text, and so on. Meanwhile, the objective of cryptography is to protect the confidential message from unauthorized access and modification. The confidentiality and integrity of the message in steganography techniques are based on the secrecy of the encryption algorithm, while in cryptographic techniques, mathematical formulae conceal the integrity of the message, thus only the communicating parties are able to understand the message. Research in the past decades has identified various applications and kinds of steganography and cryptography techniques. This chapter comprises a brief discussion on steganography and cryptography, types and working methodologies.
