Software-Defined Networking appears to be a promising technology to provide flexible Qualityof Service and ultra-reliable low latency. By modifying the current LTE architecture and integratingOpenFlow to the 5G architecture, it promises to fulfil the requirements of the end-users and to achieve betterperformances. This research presents SDN-based 5G network architecture to support next generationmission critical services. SDN allows for better evolvability of the data plane without depending on a slewof management or control protocols, allows for centralized control of the overall infrastructure, and allowsfor a richer feature set based on its programmable nature. The proposed architecture is characterized by aclear separation of the control and data planes that provides a latency improvements up to 75% compared to3GPP Release 12 compliant 4G systems.
