Security Challenges in Hardware Used for Smart Environments
Sree Ranjani Rajendran · 2020
Internet of Things (IoT) is a most emerging technology in which Internet connects everything from anywhere at all times using Internet Protocol (IP). However, the smart environment or smart space is equipped with sensors, actuators, and various computing components. Thus, the personalized services are identified and delivered by these devices in the IoT, when they are interacting and exchanging information with the environment. This is because the hardware threats are becoming more vulnerable as software threats. This chapter describes various hardware security issues in the IoT devices and their countermeasures to overcome these threats. A wide range of attacks from the cyber security domain can be mounted on real-time embedded system devices. Many of them are thwarted by IT-based countermeasures including antimalware programs, firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and anomaly detection tools.
